The primary focus of this position is to deliver Experiential Science and Environmental Education Programs in schools, for camps and clubs, at birthday parties and for field trips.
Starting Salary: $35,000/year starting
Does require some Saturdays, rarely Sundays
About the Opportunity
Main Job Tasks:
Deliver YEA education programs successfully in allotted timeframe to Pre-K to Adult and special needs audiences
Programs include fishing, gardening, environmental and sustainability, body systems and more taught to Florida State Standards, and in facilitating environmental restorations (please see www.youthenvironmentalalliance.com/classes for a full course listing)
Promote programs to teachers, group leaders and families through vendor fairs and outreaches
Be the primary point of contact and scheduler for education programs and events
Update online calendars and databases concurrently with program scheduling and delivery
Take photos at events and programs and post on social media and photo sharing apps
Participate in continuing education classes
Facilitate and teach at environmental restoration events
Organize and transport program equipment
Create promotional materials
Write newsletters or articles for publication in local magazines
Write small grant applications
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree or bachelor’s degree and 2+ years’ experience in science, environmental science, marine biology, ecology, education or related field
Education experience with delivering programs/classes in/for a variety of settings including in schools or outdoors with school groups and private groups (ex. Corporations, garden clubs, etc)
Experiential or Environmental education experience a plus
Is willing to learn new programs and comfortable teaching in outdoor and indoor settings
Proficient with computers, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and basic smartphone apps
Self-motivated, works well autonomously and in teams, self-reliant
Self manages time, work priorities, training and continuous improvement
Ability to be flexible and adapt to constantly fluid circumstances and schedules while keeping a positive attitude
Physically capable of delivering gardening and restoration programs that may require digging, planting, watering and moving of plants and equipment
Lifeguard or Rescue Diver Certified and current CPR (or willing to get certified within the 90-day probationary period)
